Chef Tyson Wright

Chef Tyson Wright is an Alberta-based chef whose cooking is deeply connected to the landscapes, ingredients, and community of the Canadian Prairies. With more than two decades in the hospitality industry, Tyson has built a reputation for bold, fire-driven cuisine that highlights local producers and the natural bounty of the region.
A graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Tyson completed his culinary training at the top of his class in 2015, earning both his Journeyman certification and Canadian Red Seal designation. His cooking blends contemporary Canadian cuisine with classical technique, always guided by a respect for seasonality and the stories behind the ingredients.
Tyson gained national recognition through his appearance on Fire Masters on Food Network Canada, where chefs compete in high-intensity live-fire challenges. Cooking with flame remains a defining part of his culinary identity and inspiration.
In 2025, Tyson earned Gold at the Edmonton regional competition of Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, advancing to compete at the prestigious Canadian Culinary Championship with his dish Heart of the Prairies, celebrating Alberta bison and prairie ingredients.
Beyond competitions, Tyson is passionate about creating memorable dining experiences that bring people together around food and fire. At The Old Red Barn, he leads the kitchen team in immersive long-table dinners cooked over live fire where guests gather to enjoy seasonal menus that celebrate local farms, Alberta producers, and the spirit of prairie hospitality. These unique dining experiences have helped the venue earn recognition as Tourism Destination of the Year 2025, while the other businesses Tyson works alongside has also been honoured as Small Business of the Year 2025.
